Habitat : Broad evergreen forest, moist and dry deciduous forest, sscrub along river banks, also in the plain; 300 - 2100 m. altitude
Comments / notes : Common on foothills to 1300 m. altitude, on cleared slopes, forest border etc. A ready colonizer.
Key identification features : Leaves usually more than 8cm long, lateral veins numerous and parallel; inflorescence branches with many persistent pairs of scaly bracts
